Nutcracker afternoon tea launches at JW Marriott

A Nutcracker Afternoon Tea has launched at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London.

Grosvenor House has partnered with Birmingham Royal Ballet for the limited edition service ahead of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s performances of The Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall this December.

Available in the Park Room until January 1, and devised by executive chef Paul Bates, it comprises three Acts and is inspired by characters from the ballet, festive flavours and seasonal ingredients.

Act 1, set in the home, is represented by traditional finger sandwiches including cucumber with garden mint butter and smoked Oakham chicken with tarragon and crème fraîche. Sandwiches are complemented by open brioche buns topped with prawn and salmon or quails egg.

Act 2 is set in the pine forest and is brought to life with buttermilk scones and paired with six jams, including rhubarb and ginger, gooseberry and rose petal.

Act 3, the finale, is represented by a top tier of delicate pastries, each expressing a character from the Nutcracker;

The Nutcracker

– Hazelnut chocolate chip tart with a Devon cream ganache and chocolate nutcracker.

The Sugar Plum Fairy

 – Light preserved plum cheesecake on a shortbread biscuit base with raspberry gel.

The Angels

– William pear cream, delicately coated in white chocolate that glistens in the light.

The Spanish Dancers and the Arabian

– Flourless chocolate cake topped with Spanish honey chocolate mousse and coffee infused chocolate twigs from the forest.

The Danish Shepherdess

– Mandarin and almond sponge, topped with almond cream and Danish redcurrant gel.

Bates says: “Grosvenor House has served afternoon tea since 1929 and it has been an honour to curate a Nutcracker edition for the Park Room. Using wonderfully seasonal ingredients, it embodies the poise of the ballet, the spirit of the festive season and the elegance of Grosvenor House, with each pastry representing a classic character from the Nutcracker. It was a pleasure to bring together and I hope our guests will love it as much as we do.”

It is served daily in the Park Room at JW Marriott Grosvenor House from 12.30pm until 6pm from £55.50 per person. It is served with a range of teas including a Grosvenor House festive blend. Add a glass of Perrier Jouët Grand Brut Champagne from £65.50 per person. A menu of champagnes is also available for guests to choose from.
