House of Lords appoints Bestway chief exec

Zameer Choudrey, chief executive of Bestway Group will be appointed to the House of Lords.

The appointment is in recognition of Choudrey’s contributions to Britain’s domestic and foreign trade as a businessman and entrepreneur, his philanthropic work in the UK and abroad, and his role as chairman of the Conservative Friends of Pakistan.

He was also appointed to the position of deputy chairman of the Pakistan Britain Trade & Investment Forum, and has served as a member of the Confederation of British Industry’s Economic Affairs Committee.

He facilitated private government visits to Pakistan and the UK for senior officials from both countries, to discuss how the UK and Pakistan can increase trade and investment.

Choudrey grew up in a remote village in Pakistan, before moving to the UK when he was 12. He was awarded a CBE in 2016 for his services to industry and philanthropy, and also sits as a trustee for several national charities.

He says: “It is an immense honour. I am truly humbled to have been appointed to the House of Lords.

“I have always viewed the UK to be the land of opportunity and I look forward to contributing to the continued advancement of our great country.”
