One Aldwych unveils a new look

The reimagined Lobby Bar at One Aldwych is now open with a new look and cocktail menu.

The Spirit of Adventure cocktail story circumnavigates the globe through a series of 21 cocktails created by mixologist Pedro Paulo to celebrate the new bar.

The new recipes include the Icelandic Midnight Sun with flavours of vodka, bilberries and grapefruit; the Basilica Catalan, inspired by the work of Antoni Gaudi with Gin Mare and the Osaka Blossom with Plum Umeshu, Mandarin and Yuzu, a homage to the scenes of Japan in springtime. It is intended to continue its journey around the world with a second edition of global cocktails in new destinations next year.

The bar has been transformed by Tom Strother and Steven Saunders of Fabled Studio.
The design idea was to give the Lobby Bar a new resonance, still part of the lobby but with its own space, with the look and feel of a destination bar. The lobby, with Indigo restaurant on the mezzanine, is set in a double-height space, with arched windows and original paneling. Stother and Saunders wanted to take One Aldwych into the future and celebrate the history of the building, designed in 1907 by the Anglo-French partnership Mewès & Davies the architects who were also responsible for the Ritz hotels in Paris and London. The building’s Art Nouveau and Parisian details have been the inspiration for Fabled Studio’s designs.

The Lobby Bar’s iconic Boatman with Oars sculpture by André Wallace has a new home on top of the bar itself, which has been extended with an island.
