Due to high interest, the deadline to enter Steelite’s UK Rising Star Hotel Chef of the Year competition has been extended to Monday 31 January 2019 to allow for more entries after the busy festive period.
Held in partnership with the F&B Managers Association (FBMA), the competition is a chance for young hotel chefs (aged between 18-30) to put their skills to the test in front of an esteemed judging panel including Michelin star chef of The Elephant, Simon Hulstone, and soon to be star of Netflix’s Chef’s Table series, Asma Khan of Darjeeling Express.
Five finalists will be chosen to compete in the live final in London on Tuesday 5 March 2019. The winner of the final will receive £2,500 worth of Steelite products for their hotel or hotel restaurant in addition to a three-night trip for two to New York City, including attendance to StarChefs International Chefs Congress 2019 and culinary tour around the city.
Roy Sommer, chairman of the Food & Beverage Manager Association, said: “The FBMA is always looking to encourage and recognise the extraordinary talent of hotel chefs, particularly those whose star is on the ascent. This competition is a fantastic opportunity for young chefs, not only in London but right across the country, to step out of their comfort zone, challenge themselves and potentially be judged by some of the UK’s finest chefs. We know the standard of hotels in this country is up there with the best in the world, in no small part because of their kitchens and restaurants, so we’re expecting big things from our finalists.”
